A fresh take on the hotel room

A Room for Rest and Ritual

We were delighted to win the commission for this room study, and we’re still proud of the outcome. Let’s see when they build the first one.

“Let’s go to Paris — the kind of pitch that invites unguarded thinking. Our brief was to design a prototype guest room for a fictional new build — a model for refurbishing more than 300 rooms across the chain.”

Those pinched entry corridors — a shuffle with bags before the room even begins. Our counter-move is simple and humane: we combine the hall and the bathroom, turning arrival into a small ritual of comfort. The threshold becomes a welcoming nook — somewhere to hang a coat, park a suitcase, and pause at the inviting washbasin to freshen up. A semi-open screen shapes the bedroom, softening the shift from arrival to rest. On paper, it’s just 20 m² — yet it feels a size up. Compare it with your next hotel stay and see what clever planning can do.

From corridor to useful room: an anteroom that organises the stay.

"At 20 m², it invites a simple test: compare how it feels with your next hotel stay."

Privacy through pattern: the screen filters views while keeping the plan open.
