A fresh take on the hotel room

Unfortunately we are not allowed to name the hotel chain because of a confidentiality agreement – we were nonetheless hugely pleased to receive the commission for a room study. And we are as proud of the result as ever!

“Off to Paris! Wonderful to be invited to a pitch that lets you think a theme through entirely freely - here is our hotel room for a fictional new-build hotel - as a template for the renovation of every room in a chain of over 300 hotels.”

Cramped room entrances are an annoyance– once you have stepped inside, you shuffle through the bottleneck with bag and baggage before you reach the bed. Semi-transparent partitions create intimacy without narrowing the floor plan.

What was the brief for the hotel room study?
A pitch made it possible to think the subject of the hotel room through entirely freely: a room for a fictional new-build hotel as a template for the renovation of every room in a chain of over 300 hotels. The hotel chain may not be named because of a confidentiality agreement.
How does the design solve the problem of cramped room entrances?
The bathroom merges with the entrance area and is designed to be so homely that you enjoy stepping into it. At the same time it becomes the place to put down suitcase and coat, the washbasin invites you to freshen up, and the semi-open spatial division makes the sleeping quarters immediately apparent.
How large is the hotel room shown?
The room shown is 20 square metres. A woven timber screen with a dressing area, bench and shelf zones the semi-open bathroom, and semi-transparent partitions create intimacy without narrowing the floor plan.
